What is Allergy?
In simple terms, allergy is the abnormal, exaggerated defense reaction of our immune system to substances which, normally, are harmless and should not cause such a reaction.
Substances which may cause an allergic reaction are called allergens. Most allergies are caused by allergens floating about in the air - called airborne allergens - from pollen (plants), moulds, house dust mites, and animals. However, there are also allergens found in food, insects, and chemical substances in cosmetics, metals, and latex.
